Oregon's hospitality industries are growing, forecasted to increase by 18%, or over 30,000 jobs, through 2014. Most of these jobs will be found in the food service and drink sector, with fastest growth found in full-service restaurants. And what better place to study the art of food than in a place where people know food? Oregon is a leading producer of a number of fruits and vegetables, including pears, peas, and beans, and is the only state with an official nut - the hazelnut. Oregon even features an official mushroom, the Pacific golden chanterelle, and an official fish, the Chinook salmon.
Oregon also is home to the largest living organism ever in existence - Armillaria ostoyae, a honey mushroom. This mushroom spans 3.4 square miles in eastern Oregon's Blue Mountains, and continues to grow today.
