Oklahoma foresees an increase of 17,000 food-related positions through 2012, and chef positions were included on the list of most annual openings with growth rates of over 17%.

Oklahoma's state meal reflects typical southern tradition in its variety and quantity, and features chicken-fried steak, barbecued pork, sausage with biscuits and gravy, fried squash and okra, corn, black-eyed peas, grits, cornbread, strawberries, and pecan pie. About: The Culinary Arts program at Platt College is a comprehensive, twelve-month Associate Degree program offering students a broad-based culinary education including theory and practical instruction. The program offers students a thorough understanding of the culinary arts, including competencies in safety and sanitation, the hot kitchen, Garde Manger, baking and pastries, and food service management. The curriculum is driven by the needs of the food service industry; to that end, the courses in the Culinary Arts program are taught by faculty with considerable industry experience and emphasize hands-on practical experience in our state-of-the-art laboratory kitchens. Students gain valuable experience in both the front and back of the house in the student-operated fine dining restaurant. Upon completion, graduates are eligible for entry-level positions in food service operations including hotels, resorts, restaurants, caterers, hospitals, institutional and contract feeding sites, and other commercial food service establishments.
