Like much of the South, Alabamans learned to make creative dishes from crops that grew well on the land they had, along with plenty of chicken and pork. The region's rich traditions make it a wonderful place to study culinary arts, and especially Southern cooking.
Alabama has several institutions of higher learning, scattered all over the state (Alabama has the Mississippi River, a long coast, the Appalachian Mountains, and farmland plains - in other words, any environment you can think of). There is plenty to do, as well, from hiking and outdoor recreation to cultural opportunities, beaches, and shopping. Alabama has a thriving economy, so it's relatively easy to find an internship or job.
